What the subreddit discussed around 1.31
Three themes dominated in the days around the final patch.
Third-party cosmetics disappearing. The clearest thread concerned the AMD Ruby Nyx skin, which became invisible in the Customization menu for anyone who did not already own it. Community replies concluded that Ruby Nyx and the Nvidia Pulsar Railgun were both gone for new accounts, and the prevailing explanation was a contractual one. This site documents the outcome on the skins page.
Staff changes. A megathread tracked layoffs at the studio, which is a signal about the game's future rather than about its current playability.
A renewed spike of attention. Community posts noted that Quake Champions had been trending on SteamDB for nearly a day as the paid switch landed — attention driven by the news, not by new content.
What the rules tell you about the community
r/QuakeChampions explicitly disallows “game dead” and similar expressions. That is not evidence that the game is or is not dead; it is evidence that the community grew tired of the label being used as a low-effort post. This site's own answer to that question is on is Quake Champions dead, and it is deliberately more specific than a one-word verdict.

How this page treats community material
- No unsourced claims from forum posts. Where a player report is used at all, it is attributed as a community report and kept separate from first-party facts.
- No quoting of pages we could not load. At least one community post that appeared relevant to item timing returned a bot-check page instead of content during research, so nothing from it is quoted here or on the item timers page. A blocked page is a gap, not a source.
- No participation in the “dead” debate as a slogan. For the evidence-based version of that question, use the verdict page.
