Quake Champions has 16 playable Champions, split into three weight classes. Since the 1.31 Point Release on 23 September 2026 every one of them is unlocked for every player, so the roster is a choice rather than a progression gate. Verified 24 September 2026.

Counts by class: Light 4, Medium 8, Heavy 4 = 16.
Health and armor caps come from the community wiki, which is the only source that publishes a per-Champion table; id Software has not released one. The class sizes therefore carry source level C and are presented as the community consensus rather than a first-party figure. The official store listing confirms the total of 16 without breaking it down.
How the weight classes differ
Weight class is the game's core balance axis: it trades raw stack against speed and hitbox size, and each class leans toward a different kind of ability.
Light (4 Champions)
Light Champions cap at 100 health and 75 armor, the smallest stack in the game, but get the strongest mobility tools to compensate. The wiki describes them as some of the best movers, able to cross a map quickly and dodge incoming fire, and consequently among the harder Champions to play well. Picking one means accepting that a mistake costs you the fight.
Anarki, Nyx, Slash, Athena.
Medium (8 Champions)
Medium Champions cap at 100 health and 100 armor, the middle ground in every respect. Their abilities tend to work both as utility and as damage, with Visor named as the exception to that pattern. The class spans beginner-friendly picks to genuinely difficult ones, and is generally less punishing than Light.
Ranger, Visor, Galena, BJ Blazkowicz, DOOM Slayer, Strogg and Peeker, Death Knight, Eisen.
Heavy (4 Champions)
Heavy Champions cap at 100 health and 125 armor — the largest stack — and pay for it with the largest hitbox. Their abilities are built around survivability in some form, from a damage-reducing shield to reduced knockback or better entry and exit mobility.
Sorlag, Clutch, Scalebearer, Keel.
Do Champions still need unlocking?
No. Bethesda's 1.31 announcement states that “all Champions are now unlocked for everyone”, and the announcement also lists the currencies and progression that used to gate them as removed. On a new account in the final build, all 16 are available immediately.
A handful of third-party entitlement cosmetics remain hidden unless already owned, and one of them is easy to confuse with a Champion: the AMD Ruby Nyx skin is an outfit for Nyx, not a separate character. Ruby is a skin, and this page does not list it as a Champion. The skins page covers why it can no longer be obtained.
What this page does not claim
- No ability names or ability damage values. No first-party table exists and the community lists are incomplete, so rather than pad the table with unverified names, this page stops at weight class and stack. The single ability the 1.31 notes name — Ranger's Dire Orb, with its collision radius cut from 1 m to 0.6 m — is documented on the update page.
- No tier list or “best Champion” ranking. There is no reliable data source for comparative rankings at the current population level, and inventing one would break this site's rule that every figure carries a source.
- No per-Champion pages. None of the 16 names is a keyword this site was built around, so they live here as one table rather than as 16 thin pages.
Where to go next
- Learn how the roster fits into play on the gameplay page.
- See the weapons each Champion can carry on the weapons page.
- Understand why stack matters by reading item respawn times.
- Check whether the game still has players at your hour on the player count page.
